Rumors are hot and heavy about the unusual decision by Samsung to use Intel Clover Trail processors in it’s newest Galaxy tablet. The decision would be strange, due to the fact Samsung’s own Exynos processors are probably the best chips available for mobile devices today(Nvidia may argue that point). However, the Clover Trail can be used both on Windows 8 tablets as well as android ones. This would let Samsung theoretically make one tablet for two different operating systems.
It’s also possible Samsung is positioning itself to take advantage of the next generation of Intel chips, Bay Trail. This is supposed to be a great improvement in power savings and performance over Clover Trail. Another possibility is that Intel is supplying the chips, and engineers to make this work, at an attractive price to Samsung. This would get Intel another foothold into mobile computing, while Samsung would get cheap products and knowledge.
So it looks very probable that there will be a Galaxy 3 tab powered by Intel, in the 10.1″ size, announced sometime in June. So far both Intel and Samsung have declined to comment on the rumors, but that isn’t a denial.
