ASUS’ newest device, the Asus Tablet 600, has an 10.1-inch, 1366 x 768 IPS+ display and a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU. The tablet was shown running Windows RT Tablet Preview edition during the Asus news conference at the Computex trade show in Taipei. It has a rear 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, as well as a 2 megapixel front camera. 2GB ram is combined with 32GB storage, as well as wifi and Bluetooth. The tablet is surprisingly slim at 8.35mm, and only weighs 520 grams. The Arm version of Windows 8, Windows RT comes preloaded with Office 15, a group of widely used productivity applications. Microsoft has said it had to re-engineer Windows RT to deal with expectations for ARM based devices, which include all-day connectivity and low power consumption. The drawback to ARM-based windows tablets is that they will be mostly, if not totally incompatible with legacy desktop Windows applications. Tablets with Intel processors will have that advantage over the ARM tablets, and for many it will likely be a major sticking point. No pricing yet, and availability is tied to the release of Windows 87 later this year.
